Phase III Engineering for I-80 Reconstruction

SPAAN Tech provided Phase III Engineering Services for construction management, construction inspection, and contract administration on I-80/94 (IL 394 to US 41).

Duties included: schedule and budget control, on-site material testing, and material quality assurance testing for advance work on the highways. The work also encompassed structure removal and replacement of Wentworth Avenue over I-80

The electrical contract included: high-mast lighting advance work, fiber optic cable and systems, CCTV, surveillance, and dynamic message sign systems.

I-90 Corridor Master Plan

As part of the I-90 Corridor Master Plan, SPAAN Tech was retained to conceptually design the roadway lighting and drainage system for the study to determine the minimum build requirements to add a lane in each direction along the Illinois Tollway I-90 corridor. SPAAN Tech’s design primarily focused on the segment of roadway between Route 31 and Higgins Road.

Phase II Traffic Signal Design

SPAAN Tech provided comprehensive design and planning services for the installation and modernization of 11 signalized intersections in the City of Chicago.

For the project, SPAAN Tech conducted full topographic field surveys, identified all sidewalk and landscaping treatments, and inventoried all signs, pavement markings, and existing conduit numbers and conditions. An on-site design meeting addressed the utility information gathered, which was then incorporated into the design plan.

Tri- State Tollway I-294 Reconstruction

SPAAN Tech provided phase II drainage, roadway lighting design services, and quality assurance and quality control services for the widening and reconstruction of two miles of the Tri-State Tollway I-294.

SPAAN Tech prepared all drainage construction documents including: drainage plans, drainage and ditch profiles, drainage removal plans, drainage details and drainage cross sections. The firm also developed supplemental project specifications, quantity and cost estimates, along with all supporting computer models, calculations, and exhibits.

North Avenue Streetscape

SPAAN Tech contributed to the design of a new streetscape of North Avenue, from Kilpatrick Avenue to Cicero Avenue.

The project involved: landscaping, drainage, street lighting, and sidewalk improvements. STI provided lighting and civil engineering design services, which included: drawing preparation, CADD, and construction phase services.

O’Hare Modernization Program: O’Hare Airport, Runway 9L-27R Paving and Lighting

The construction of a new runway 9L-27R at Chicago O’Hare International Airport was part of the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP).

SPAAN Tech and joint venture partner, A. Epstein and Sons International, Inc., provided the lead electrical engineering services to design and prepare construction documents for airfield electrical, lighting, signage, wind cones, and pavement sensors, for the new runway and associated taxiways.

SPAAN Tech also developed alternative airfield layouts to ensure that the final design was the best design.

Navy Pier Restroom Renovations

SPAAN Tech provided architectural and engineering services for the renovation of both men’s and women’s public restrooms located in the Family Pavilion and the first floor of the Terminal Building. Renovations included new ceiling tile and grid, drywall, floor tile and toilet partitions.

SPAAN Tech prepared all civil design, electrical design, and specifications related to the project, which was designed to meet ADA requirements

Great Lakes Naval Base: Program Management of Design Build Project

SPAAN Tech, Inc. designed and renovated a 35,737 square foot historic Fire Department Facility Building 106 at Great Lakes Naval Base to accommodate EMT personnel while simultaneously streamlining the existing building functions.

SPAAN Tech provided architectural, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC engineering, as well as quality control management for this project. We also provided general contracting, construction management and safety services.
