The facilities throughout the Illinois Tollway system are inspected on a four-year cycle.  SPAAN Tech Inc. (STI), as a sub-consultant to AECOM, has performed these inspections and populated the related project database.

SPAAN Tech performs the assessment of the general condition of Illinois Tollway buildings, plazas, salt domes, communication towers, tunnels and associated site elements and making repair/replace recommendations.  The evaluations were based upon physical inspections, discussions with maintenance personnel, reviews of available reports and visual observations.  Each component/system at the site was assigned a condition grade and allocated a resultant remaining useful life.  Additionally, general life cycle cost analysis was performed in order to allot priority for repair or replacement.  SPAAN Tech also produced a detailed report and updated the database to indicate the inspection findings and recommendations for associated funding requirements, which means the authority and other authorized users are able to conveniently retrieve the facilities information.
